Help Save Arts Funding in MassachusettsMCC.logo

The Massachusetts Cultural Council, a long-time supporter of the Aston Magna Music Festival and many other vibrant cultural organizations in the state, is facing a potential budget cut of 28 percent in the proposed budget unveiled this month in Boston. This funding loss will jeopardize vital support for us and the arts community throughout Massachusetts.

Please learn more here, and express your concerns in a letter to your state legislators.

Here is the letter written by Susan Obel, Executive Director of Aston Magna:

“I am the Executive Director of Aston Magna Foundation/Aston Magna Music Festival at Brandeis University in Waltham and in Great Barrington in the Berkshires. I am an arts administrator and arts patron. Unquestionably the arts are not only personally enriching and necessary to a full life, but they also enhance our communal lives, as well as generating thousands of jobs and income for the communities in which they are located.

The arts employ countless performers, artists, stage managers, set designers, administrative personnel, to name but a few; these professionals pay rents, utilize and pay for the services of multiple businesses, among many other income (and tax) producing activities, bringing economic health and vitality to their communities. And where arts institutions are located, numerous other businesses pop up: restaurants, galleries, hotels, retail stores and more.

The ARTS MATTER in Massachusetts, and so I ask that arts and culture be funded at $17 million next year so the creative community can continue to have an impact on education and economic development, and help build a more vibrant, healthy, and equitable Massachusetts. It is a win-win for Massachusetts and its citizens! Thank you.”

Will you join us in expressing your support for the arts in Massachusetts? Thank you!
