Aston Magna at Brandeis
10th Annual Workshop in J.S. Bach’s Music for Unaccompanied Violin
June 19-24, 2016
Brandeis University, Waltham Massachusetts
Application deadline: May 1
The Aston Magna at Brandeis University Summer Music Workshop is a six-day intensive laboratory for violinists who are students, serious amateurs, or professionals. The workshop focuses on the solo violin works of J. S. Bach, but touches on other music and on general performance issues.
Activities include private coaching, private practicing, museum visits, complimentary communal lunches, informal performance in master classes, lecture demonstrations, open rehearsals of the instructors’ concerts, and participants’ concerts at each week’s ends.
Workshops are open to 6-8 players of either modern and period instrument players; some period instruments are available for student use. All workshop activities take place in the Slosberg Music Center (Brandeis’ air-conditioned music building).
The workshop is led by Daniel Stepner, baroque and modern violin and Artistic Director of the Aston Magna Music Festival.
Mr. Stepner is first violinist of the Lydian String Quartet, in residence at Brandeis University and former concertmaster of the Handel and Haydn Society. He is a founding member of the Boston Museum Trio and was for 20 years a Preceptor in Music at Harvard University.
Workshop participants perform in informal concerts on the morning of Friday, June 24, 2016.
