Aston Magna’s chamber ensemble presents a fine fall evening of Bach and other great chamber composers, at historic Saint James Place in Great Barrington on Oct. 7, 2017. “Bach Father and Son, and Their Peers” begins at 7 p.m., with a pre-concert talk at 6. The evening includes chamber works by the Bach father and son, Handel and Buxtehude.

“Our summer audiences and musicians were enchanted by the newly restored Saint James Place, and our musical stars have lined up to allow for one final 2017 event at this special venue,” said Daniel Stepner, Aston Magna’s artistic director.

The program will include selections from J.S. Bach’s “Musical Offering” and the “Trio Sonata’, C.P.E. Bach’s Sonata in C minor, for keyboard and violin; Buxtehude’s Sonata a due in B Flat, for violin, gamba and continuo, and Handel’s Sonata in B Minor, for flute and continuo.

The ensemble includes Dan Stepner, violin; Laura Jeppesen, viola da gamba; Andrea LeBlanc, flute, and Peter Sykes, harpsichord.
