Dan Stepner, Aston Magna’s Artistic Director, offers an introduction to our June 25 @Home musical selection by Jean-Marie Leclair, performed with violinist Edson Scheid:
Jean-Marie Leclair was the most important French violinist-composer of the 18th century. He left us chamber music of various combinations, including a rich store of trio sonatas, sonatas for solo violin and continuo and many duos — like the one presented here — for two violins. He did for the violin what François Couperin did for the harpsichord: he combined the forms of Italian baroque with the rich harmonies of the French baroque. We hope you enjoy our virtual mini-concert!
