The Music of Handel, Corelli, Monteverdi, Rossi, Rameau and Others Mark a Winter Saturday in the Berkshires
Join the Aston Magna Chamber Players for “A Baroque Celebration,” a winter afternoon of instrumental and vocal music by Handel, Corelli, Purcell, Monteverdi and other composers, on Saturday Dec. 7, 3:00 p.m., at Saint James Place in Great Barrington.
A pre-concert talk takes place at 2:15 p.m. with artistic director Daniel Stepner.
In this rich program Aston Magna musicians perform on period instruments, presenting the music as intended by the composers.
Excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, along with music by Marais, Corelli’s Ciaconna, Rameau’s Orphée, Purcell’s Trio(Chicory) and sonatas by Bertali, Rossi and Elizabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, mark this special winter concert in the intimate environs of Saint James Place, renowned as an acoustical gem in the Berkshire region.
Musicians include Daniel Stepner and Julie Leven, baroque violins; Laura Jeppesen, viola da gamba, Catherine Liddell, theorbo, and tenor Frank Kelley.
