Marin Marais (1656-1728) left us a huge repertoire for the viola da gamba — over 600 pieces gathered into many colorful sets. Marais was a favorite of Louis XIV, who sponsored his composition and performance at court.
For your @Home enjoyment, Laura Jeppesen (viola da gamba) and Catherine Liddell (theorbo) present three pieces from their upcoming CD devoted to Marais: Prélude en harpégement; Rondeau moitié pincé, and Les Voix humaines, all below.
